We love this place. Great quacamole. Great tacos (I get pastor and chorizos) Two people can have two tacos with beans and rice and a beer for $16. Seriously. Great service. Lots of Spanish speaking customers. Always a good sign. Tiny place that's atmosphere is as authentic as it's food. Behind La Perla and down the strip mall from Layla's. Not easy to see from Rodney Parham. Hope you don't go as I want to keep this place for myself!!

I am from Houston Texas so authentic Mexican food is everywhere. I stopped in for dinner one evening and not expecting too much being this far north in the US. This place really surpassed my expectations. The food was great and reminded me of home. This is the only place in Little Rock I will ever eat Mexican at again.

I was born and raised in Southern California and recently relocated to Little Rock. It has recently been my mission to find a decent, passable, Mexican restaurant in LR. However, going through pictures from other popular "Mexican" restaurants in the area left me pretty much hopeless, to the point I didn't even want to give these places a shot especially when most reviews immediately jumped to the quality of the "queso." I thought I was going to be forever deprived of al pastor, chilaquiles, menudo, the list goes on and on. BUT!!! I came across Taqueria El Palenque and thought "Hey this looks promising!" and it absolutely delivered. This place is no different than what you would find in LA or Orange County. The chilaquiles were awesome and the prices are great. TRANSPLANTS!!!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD MEXICAN FOOD LOOK NO FURTHER! IT IS HERE!!!

Cheap, delicious, filling, and super fast. We sampled the burritos (awesome), tacos (good), and gorditas (skip). The burrito was my favorite. For $6, you get nearly a pound of burrito filled with meat, rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. I like their Barbacoa meat the best. Perfectly seasoned beef that has no toughness or stringiness to it. Sometimes the service seemed haphazard and uncertain but they brought our food in less than 10 minutes; and the cost was $17 for two people to sample more than they could finish.

Wonderful experience. We were the only Anglos in the place. Mixto fajitas were delicious and amazingly well priced.

Great food. Don't let the outside fool you. Everyone there eating spoke Spanish, we were the only Anglos. This is a great place. You will not be disappointed.

First of all I'm a mx restaurant owner in the northwest part of the state. I lived my firt 15 years of life in Mexico eating Mx food at home and at taquerias. Recently I had to spend some weeks in LR. I wanted to eat some good, real Mx flavor tacos and this place delivered. Don't come here if you want a fancy service but do come if you want good, original tacos. The prices are almost wrong cheap. Good for customer! The barbacoa and the alpstor tacos are specilly good. Followed by carnitas. The yellowish salsa is not my favorite but it is better than most MX restarants I have visited in the US.

Oops, I guess I should've read the reviews before I rolled in because I definitely don't think I ordered their A-game. I'll revise when I get a chance to go get tacos there but for now I'm kinda feeling 3.5 stars but I'll round up to 4. I popped in to pick up lunch and got some burritos and beans, and yes you do get a crazy amount of food for a really great price! My partner liked his asada burrito and the super hot hot salsa, and tiny food critic loved the beans so much he forsook his spoon and dived right in. But... the lengua was just so eh. It was mushy and watery tasting, just super bland, and since that's my favourite, it really hurts my opinion of this place.

Best tacos I've ever had. Very old school and authentic. I get the brisket and chorizo! Fantastic with the red sauce but be warned the red has done kick to it. If the red is to hot go with the green it's good to but not very hot. Great service as well.

A real hidden gem in Little Rock. Tacos arrieros are my favorite, but all are good. Pastor, barbacoa, carnitas. The tortas are huge and delicious. Salsa not my favorite, but that may be a blessing in disguise. Try this place. It's a favorite of mine.

I am the only Arkansan from a family of Texans (Aunt, Uncles, and Siblings included) and this tastes just like I remember eating when we went to visit. Great good, great service and very authentic. Only complaint is they do not serve unsweetened Iced Tea, but the Sodas have real Sugar so that makes up for it. Cannot recommend enough.

I can't believe no one has reviewed this hidden treasure yet. My only concern that once word gets out, I won't be able to get in. Authentic Mexican, as evidenced by the customer mix. We are fortunate to have some great authentic taquerias, mostly in SWLR, but this one is conveniently located in WL, although slightly hidden in same strip center as Layla's. Fabulous tacos, reasonably priced. Unless you opt for cerveza, try the agua fresca - refreshing fruit flavored waters. Guacamole as good anywhere in town, chunky and well seasoned. Not a fancy place like Local Lime or Cantina Laredo but food (and prices!) more than compensate.

I've been to lots of different Mexican restaurants and they're basically all the same kind of food. This one is awesome and authentic!! The food and service is excellent! A definite hidden gem! The only way you'd be disappointed is if you couldn't get in because they were full of customers. :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
